Description
Llantwit Major and District Riding Club were started by a group of enthusiasts in 1974, primarily to provide local children a safe place to meet and ride.
At the time, few horses and pony owners had transport and most were restricted to riding on the roads because of the lack of safe off-road areas and bridleways in the Vale of Glamorgan.
But times change. Many riders now have access to trailers or horseboxes to travel further afield, though most still have to ride on increasingly dangerous roads.
The club has changed, too. We have been affiliated to the British Horse Society as a British Riding Clubs (BRC) member for more than ten years and now have a permanent place to meet, at Tremains Farm, Llanmaes.
Something that hasn’t changed in our 40 years existence is this – we are still the friendly, easy-going (but hopefully professionally organized) club we always were, running events for every age and ability of rider; from the novice pony owner to the more experienced. We hope we’ll see you this year!
