Description
Billericay Riding Club was formed by Carol and Graham Wilkins in 1982, who wanted to start a new affiliated club for members who wished to compete in team events. Graham was a kingpin of Essex equestrian sports at the time, thanks to his contribution as a judge, course builder, and general advisor, and was indeed instrumental in the formation of the Riding Clubs Committee. As, unlike many other clubs, Billericay was specifically set up to compete in team events, the club's philosophy had always been that every member will have the opportunity to ride for the club if they wish. This theme is integral in the club, which is why you often see more than one team in each competition! Team Spirit and enjoyment are the keys at Billericay and the club has fundraisers during the year, together with very popular shows at the prestigious Crays Hill Show Ground.
At Billericay, the club often socializes together, which accounts for a lot of our success. They always welcome new members and they will be given every opportunity to compete for the Club. Billericay Riding Club is smaller than many of its neighbors, with currently just 60 members, but can boast a string of National successes in all fields of competition, right back to its inception in 1982. These include individual titles in the 1980s in Dressage and Prix Caprilli, individual titles in the 1990s in eventing, dressage and show jumping, to the present date and the team national Horse Trials Championship win in 2005 for the Senior Open Team.
