Description
The Galloway Horse Club, formed in 1967, had a slightly unexpected origin. The brainchild of two ladies from the Corsock and Balmaclellan areas, the aim was to bring together people with a love of and interest in all things to do with the horse. As the name of the club suggests, the welfare of the horse was paramount and the education of owners and riders a means to that end. Learning took many forms and knowledge was absorbed from horse people with a lifetime of experience as well as from the professionals.
Affiliation to the British Riding Club movement followed and the club embraced its aims, forging links with other riding clubs through competitions. After 40 years, the GHC tries to offer quality training, well-run events and a sprinkling of social activities to foster a spirit of companionship among a region-wide membership.
We aim to provide something for everyone, from serious competition to relaxed events for all the family.
